Go into the wild at Hon Thi Island
Hon Thi Island is on the way to Nha Phu Lagoon for tourists who are visiting Nha Trang but if you bypass this little gem you are missing out. One of the beaches on Hon Thi Island in Khanh Hoa Province - Photo: Khue Viet TruongThe island covers 500 hectares and its pristine beauty is a huge attraction for tourists who are intrigued by the area and are keen to explore the riddles of nature where human hands just touch a part of it. About three kilometers from the land, Hon Thi is located in Ninh Ich Commune, Ninh Hoa District, Khanh Hoa Province. So to get to the island, you can take a boat from Da Chong Beach or from Ninh Ich Commune. When you arrive there are flocks of deer and ostrich which you can feed, play with and watch them run around the area. Along the island are also many stunning beaches with many rock beaches. Along the beach are many sea vegetables, wild flowers and many trees you've probably never seen before. Inside the island, tourists will see a number of orchards with many kinds of fruit trees such as guava, orange, dragon fruit, sugar apple and coconut. The island is also home to fishing boats and many vestiges as it used to be a temporary home for people when storms come. There is a small temple which was built in 1998 and is dedicated to worship the sea god. It is littered with rock gardens, piling up into caves so tourists can go on an adventure with a flash light. However, the journey is not for the faint-hearted just the brave and the bold. As the island is still primitive, you have to bring your own food and drink. Vietnam reaffirms stance on sea dispute settlement
Sovereignty disputes at sea should be directly settled between concerned parties and be transparent in the international environment. Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieu. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh reiterated Vietnam's stance while receiving defence ministers and officials of countries attending the 2012 Shangri La Dialogue in Singapore on June 2-3. Vinh stressed that addressing sea-related issues requires concerned parties not to use or threaten to use force, as well as not to use or threaten to use 'soft' power such as economic isolation, considering this a must in international norms. He echoed his guests' view that all disputes in the East Sea should be peacefully resolved according to international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), as well as regional commitments that ASEAN and its dialogue partners have made. The head of the Vietnamese delegation to the Shangri La Dialogue noted that adhering to international law means all countries should have similar understanding and explanation of international law. He also confirmed that the sovereign right of coastal countries over their exclusive economic zones (EEZ) within 200 nautical miles should be definitely respected. During a meeting with Indian Defence Minister A.K.Antony, Vinh highlighted Vietnam's consistent policy of promoting the strategic partnership with India, in which national defence ties are considered as a pillar. He proposed that India continue to support Vietnam in such areas as training and national defence industries. Antony said that strengthening relations with Vietnam is one of India's priorities in its Look East policy. He requested Vietnam to support India in multilateral forums. Vinh and Antony shared the view that the two countries will work close together to effectively organise the strategic dialogue on national defence at the deputy ministerial level in India late this year. The Vietnamese general conveyed National Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh's invitation to Antony to visit Vietnam, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure. Vinh also met with defence ministers and officials from China, the US, Singapore, Australia, Canada, the UN and the European Union. Delegates to the Shangri La Dialogue emphasised that maritime freedom should be respected in the East Sea and that any dispute should be handled peacefully according to international law, especially the 1982 UNCLOS, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and the future Code of Conduct (COC). US Defence Secretary Leoen Panetta voiced his strong support for the increased organisation of the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting - Plus (ADMM+) and for ongoing efforts by ASEAN and China in formulating the COC in the East Sea. Edge Evolution Review
In the early days of automotive the power that rolled off the factory floor was pretty much what you were stuck with. As America's obsession with cars and horsepower roared ahead, folks found ever more ingenious ways to pump every spare pony out of their power plants. From the earliest air intake systems all the way to modern supercharger systems, the aftermarket performance world has come a long way. The problem is, installing cold air intakes, exhaust systems and turbochargers requires time, energy, tools and a decent chunk of engineering know-how. To get the most out of your ride without tearing up its insides, step up to the next evolution in performance technology: the Edge Evolution programmer. Plugging easily into your ride's OBDII port, the Edge Evolution performance tuner is a breeze to use. With this seamless connection, you get access to an entire suite of performance and diagnostic tools. And, it features a USB connection port so you always have the latest and greatest Superchips mods. Plus, once your hook it up, setup is a snap with your new tuner up and running in 30 minutes flat. Even better, the backlit LED screen makes on-the-fly changes fast and fuss-free. Packed with tunes custom programmed for your specific year, make and model engine, the Edge Evolution delivers a whole new level of technological sophistication. It takes every wasteful scrap of code the factory crammed in your computer and swaps it for an entirely new one optimized just for your engine. So, your ride gets a brawny jolt of juice that leaves the rest of the highway herd sucking up your dust. In fact, the tunes are so powerful that gas engines typically see increases of up to 35 horsepower and 50 ft lbs of torque. And, if you're rocking a diesel engine, your ride gets a bounce of up to 100 roaring ponies and 210 ft lbs of torque. Not hungry for more horsepower? No problem. The Edge Evo tuner also has custom mods for towing and improved fuel economy. On top of high-flying power gains, the Edge Evolution power programmer is also packed-to-the-gills with monitoring, diagnostic and troubleshooting tools. You can monitor up to 24 engine vitals and display up to 4 user-customizable parameters at a time. Plus, it tracks 0-60, quarter-mile and reaction times. And, the Edge programmer gives you the power to read and clear those frustrating trouble codes, saving you a bundle on unnecessary trips to the dealership. NA considers infant milk powder ad ban
The law on advertising was a hot topic at the NA meeting session on May 30, especially the law on milk powder ads for infants. Law on advertising was a hot topic at the NA meeting session Deputy Tran Hong Tham from Can Tho said 80% of advertisements were the responsibility of information and communication sector. "There are many complaints about advertisements on TV or newspapers. The actors are often scantily dressed or behave in a way that is inconsistent with our beliefs. For example, a teacher in one advert laughs at her students when a pupil's uniform falls off her because she's too thin." Tham asked the law makers to map out criteria and penalties for those kinds of adverts. Deputy Le Huu Phuoc from Binh Duong also agreed that children should be protected from harmful advertising. He mentioned Resolution 21 in 2006 that had banned nutrition milk ads. These ads often claimed to replace breast milk but the ban had been lifted and the government only banned nutrition milk ads for infants under 12 months old. "Although we banned those adverts previously, it still hasn't stopped and using formula milk could affect children's intelligence." Phuoc said. After the ban was issued, many companies found ways to avoid the law by advertising their milk powder for children from 12 to 36 months old but the product was still firmly targeted at children under 12 months. Deputy Pham Thi Phuong from Ha Tinh wanted the law to be tighter by requesting a ban on nutritional milk powder for children less than 24 months old, "Breast milk has been proved to be best for infants. It's internationally recognized that children need their mother's milk until they're at least 24 months old." she said. Saigonese pamper their exam-stressed kids with high protein luxury foods
Students are being crammed luxury allegedly beneficial foods such as ginseng, swallow nests and shark fin. While swallow's nests cost a minimum of VND35 million (USD1,675) per kilo at shops, some markets in HCM City are charging VND23 million (USD1,010) per kilo. Shark fin can be bought for VND3.4 million and VND8 million (USD162.75-USD382.95) per kilo at markets depending on the type, around 30% lower than prices at shops. Prices of abalone range from VND180,000-VND600,000 (USD8.61-USD28.72) per box, depending on their origin. Six-year-old fresh ginseng is sold at between VND1 million and VND1.85 million (USD47.86-USD88.55) per kilo. Red ginseng is priced from VND870,000-VND1.7 million (USD41.64-USD81.37) per box. Dam Thi My Linh, owner of a stall in An Dong Market, said, "We've found it easier to sell these items recently as increasing numbers of parents are trying to feed their children with nutritional food to prepare for their exams." Meanwhile, families with lower incomes have opted to buy more popular food for their children such as pig hearts and brains, goat and cow marrow. Nguyen Thi Thuy Ngan from Pham Dinh Ho Street in District 6, said she is trying to buy energy bolstering food for her 5th and 12th grade children. Le Thu Thanh from Le Van Luong Street in District 7 bought goat brain in Tan My Market for her child with a hope that it would help their child prepare for their tests. However, doctors expressed concerns about the point of origin of many of the products. Doctor Le Thuy Tuoi, a nutritionist, also warned that parents would do better focusing on providing well balanced meals rather than opting for expensive and unproven luxury food items to boost their children's studies.
